Patricia "Tricia" Walker is the wife of former U.S. President Garrett Walker and former First Lady of the United States.

Biography[]

Before becoming First Lady of the United States, she was First Lady of Colorado during her husband’s tenure as the state's 41st Governor from 2007 until his resignation in 2012, before his ascension to the Presidency.

Season 1[]

Patricia is briefly seen in Chapter 1 alongside her husband, President-Elect Garrett Walker during celebratory gala for the 2013 New Year. In this scene, she is portrayed by Dani Englander, while she is portrayed subsequently by Joanna Going.

Season 2[]

Throughout her time in the White House, Tricia finds herself continuously manipulated by Second Lady Claire Underwood, who triangulates her, making her feel isolated and abandoned by everyone around her in her new environment.

One of the recurring ways she does this is by spreading rumors about one of her husband’s aides, Christina Gallagher. She paints her as a climber and a home-wrecker, making Tricia suspect them of having an affair. She tells Patricia: "I just don't like women who sleep with their bosses," alluding to Christina's initially secret relationship with the late Congressman Peter Russo during her time as his chief of staff.

Claire encourages Patricia to seek counseling, alongside her husband, to help strengthen and repair their marriage. On a late-night phone call to the Underwoods’ residence, Tricia succumbs to their trap and asks her for the name and phone number of the therapist. She provides the name Dr. Thomas Larkin, whom she explains was previously her and Frank’s therapist, and reassures Tricia that there is no reason to fear — because not only can they manipulate the travel logs, but they would be able to characterize it as “spiritual counseling”, and not psychiatry or talk therapy if revealed to the public.

However, after Frank’s maneuvering, a money laundering scheme that funded the campaigns of congressional Democratic leadership comes to light; a special investigation begins in order to determine the extent of the White House’s involvement. In an effort to clear his name, the President waives executive privilege, and he and the and First Lady’s full Secret Service travel logs since inauguration are disclosed to Justice. Once the counseling is uncovered, it is revealed through Larkin’s testimony that Garrett secretly took a potentially mind-altering medication as a result of the counseling.

Frank and Claire secretly work with House Majority Whip Jacqueline Sharp — under the guise of negotiations over Claire's sexual assault reform bill — to secure the votes for impeachment. Once it becomes known to the public that a majority of the House will vote for impeachment, Garrett subsequently resigns office at Camp David on October 28, 2014, and Frank Underwood assumes the Presidency. Both Patricia and Garrett exit Camp David and return to Colorado as private citizens.
